Football Coach Jack Scott had brought new fervor to the Eagles. No nonsense,he had the verbal and coaching skills to back
it up. Scott was ably assisted by DC Milt Martin and trainer Neil “Doc” Ersland kept the show going. The practice field was
always high with anticipation and dedicated to the task at hand. Hard work and sweat were prerequisites to achieving the
Eagle’s goal. Midland, Dana, BV, Sioux Falls, always a nasty battle at Yankton. The nail biters with Northwestern.
Those were lofty days for the Eagles and they were flying proud and high.
Back to the “hill.” Actually, it was just an embankment. But at the end of a hard, hot practice – drilling
up and down its slope made it at least a hill. On some days it seemed a mountain. Forging the
Eagles into champions.
The next time you’re enjoying dinner in the climate controlled comfort of the Convention
Center – remember championships were once being earned on the ground you
are resting upon.
